Dates/Khajoor are the fruit of the date palm tree which is scientifically classified as Phoenix dactylifera. Dates otherwise known as khajoor are golden yellow in colour or otherwise reddish-brown when ripe. Its meat is sweet, soft, and aromatic with a stone inside it of elongate shape and with a longitudinal furrow. Dates are either consumed fresh or dry and are a common food for the people in North Africa and the Middle East who are the main producers. There are about a million and one variety of dates grown around the world but the tender Medjool/Ajwa Dates are the most common variety found throughout the world.
